Coaching Competencies That Move Clients Forward

Your client had a breakthrough last session. A profound insight. They finally understand why they struggle with boundaries, why relationships feel hard, why they stay stuck in the same patterns.

They leave your office feeling understood and validated.

And then nothing changes.

Week after week, same issues. Same patterns. Same stuck places.

It's not because your client isn't motivated. It's not because you're not talented.

It's because you're using the wrong framework.

Therapy is designed for treatment—to reduce symptoms, process pain, and create insight. But what your motivated, growth-oriented clients actually need is coaching—a structured process that turns insight into action and creates measurable transformation.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • The fundamental shift: How coaching differs from therapy in role, process, and purpose (and why this matters for client outcomes)
  • The coaching process framework: A structured approach that creates measurable progress—you'll see it demonstrated and practice it yourself
  • Action planning that actually works: How to help clients move from "I understand why I do this" to "I'm doing something different"
  • Accountability without control: How to be directive and action-oriented without becoming prescriptive or abandoning your therapeutic wisdom
  • Assessment in action: How to recognize when someone is stuck because they need skill-building (coaching) versus when they need symptom reduction (therapy)
  • Real-world application: Case examples of common presenting issues (relationship struggles, career transitions, boundary-setting) and how coaching creates different outcomes than therapy

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

  • Therapists whose motivated clients keep having insights but not making changes
  • Clinicians who feel stuck between being too passive or too directive
  • Licensed professionals who want to understand what coaching actually is (not just therapy with a different name)
  • Therapists considering coaching certification who want to see the framework first
